Spurs eye Argentine ace
Sunday, 11 July 2004
Tottenham's transfer activity shows no sign of abating, with Argentine winger Kily Gonzalez reportedly being lined up for a season-long loan.
The North London outfit have been busy this week and have already brought in Pedro Mendes in a swap deal with Helder Postiga from Porto, and Fulham's Sean Davis.
It now seems natural width on the left is boss Jacques Santini's next priority, and Internazionale star Gonzalez fits the bill.
The 29-year-old left Valencia to join up with former boss Hector Cuper at Inter last term, but was left somewhat in limbo after the club sacked Cuper shortly after he completed his switch to the Giuseppe Meazza.
'Kily', who is currently on Copa America duty with his country, looks likely to be left in the cold following Roberto Mancini's recent appointment at Inter.
Reports suggest Spurs will try to prise the winger away from Milan with an extended loan switch to White Hart Lane.
Meanwhile, Tottenham's director of sport, Frank Arnesen, has dismissed claims that Fredi Kanoute is to be offloaded by the club.
Speculation about the striker's future has intensified following Santini's arrival as the French coach sold the striker during his time at Lyon, and ignored his claims for a call-up to the France national side when he was manager of Les Bleus.
However, Arnesen has denied that the former West Ham star has been offered to other clubs.
"It's not true that Kanoute has been given permission to talk to other clubs about a move," the Dane stated. "Absolutely not."
