A curfew banning children under the age of 18 from being in Northbridge after dark is to be introduced to try to solve crime problems in the nightclub and restaurant precinct.
The Premier, Geoff Gallop says the plan is yet to be finalised but will involve unsupervised juveniles being taken off the streets and held until they're picked up by parents or guardians.
Dr Gallop says in January more than 450 juveniles, some as young as six, were found roaming Northbridge streets.
He's expecting criticism but says something has to be done to restore law and order: "Currently the situation that exists in Northbridge is unacceptable it's not only unacceptable to the businesses and the people that live in that area it's also represents a real risk to these youngsters themselves we've got youngesters as young as six under the influence of alcohol harrassing people they're vulnerable, they're at risk
