I did my undergrad and currently pursuing master degree aboard and, to be honest, I'm so bored with the topic now coz East Asian crisis seem to appears nearly everyyyyy years..
There are many great thai economists out there.. an example is Ammar Siamwalla, he wrote a few very good articles on the EA crisis. So, I don't think the topic is neglected in the Thai academic world.
Anyway, I don't like the explanation written in the standard macro text like the one by Mankiw. He was like the US and the IMF is going to save the world or something like that.
IMO, it is not only EA crisis which is interesting, but other crisis around the world as well (e.g. Mexico in 1994, Chile in 1981, Argentina in 2001, Brazil in 1994). Different countries face with different types of crisis (e.g. asset speculation and consumption boom in Mexico, excessive sterilization in Brazil, and corporate debt problem and capital control mismanagement in Korea). One need to learn from those experiences (not only East Asia one!), to prevent financial crisis in the future.
